           Welcome to the website for the Sumter Tennis Association. 

The Sumter Tennis Association is a Community Tennis Association registered with and authorized by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).  Its major purposes are (1) to promote the development of tennis as a means of healthful recreation and physical fitness for all residents of Sumter and the surrounding areas and (2) to cooperate with the USTA and other entities in the pursuit of these aims.

The USTA believes that while there are not many sports activities that test every part of your body, tennis can and does.  Tennis promotes quickness and agility as well as core strength.  It also increases one’s stamina and mental toughness.  All of this happens while having fun, working off stress and re-energizing oneself.  Tennis is truly a lifetime sport available to all who wish to play.  The Sumter Tennis Association wholeheartedly adopts this belief also.

Based at the Palmetto Tennis Center, an award-winning facility, the Sumter Tennis Association supports the efforts of the City of Sumter to bring tennis programs and events to Sumter that benefit the Sumter community.  The Sumter Tennis Association works closely with the staff at the Palmetto Tennis Center and appreciates the City’s efforts in improving the tennis facilities and level of play in Sumter as well as broadening the base of those who participate in tennis and tennis-related activities.

The Sumter Tennis Association is committed to taking tennis to the next level in Sumter.  Your membership in the Sumter Tennis Association is vital and helps promote tennis programs through your membership fees, donations and grants.  Offering your time and talents to assist with tournaments, to work on committees and to serve as officers or members of the Board of Directors always pay good dividends.  Together we can have a positive impact on the future of tennis in Sumter!
